Burke,New Mission Move On To City Final!

J.E. Burke High and New Mission High will clash tomorrow afternoon in the City of Boston Girl's High School Basketball Championship after defeating Fenway and Boston Latin Academy respectively,on Wednesday at Madison Park High School. In the first semi- final the Burke Lady Bulldogs (14-4) and Fenway Panthers (14-5) engaged in an extremely hard fought and spirited game. Both teams could never really pull away from the other and provided plenty of excitemen for the charged up crowds on both sides. The Panthers are a scrappy fundamentally sound team that plays 90 feet of basketball and defends as good as anyone in the city. Unfortunately for them, the Burke was led by arguably the best point guard in eastern Massachusetts by the name of Khadijah Ellison. In a game that Fenway led 49-48 after 3 quaters,Ellison took control of the game scoring 24 of her game high 35 points in the second half and proved to be too much for Fenway ,the Boston North Conference Champions to handle.

In the second contest New Mission ,the South Conference Champs defeated BLA 52-48 while continuing to build quite a tradition of winning despite their program's relatively short existence. The now 15-3 Titans were led by Nyiesha Kelly's 26 points. Despite their losses on Wednesday,BLA and Fenway's (14-5) season's will continue next week as they have already clinched spots in the upcoming state tournament. Congratulations to all 4 teams for making it this far and representing Boston in a grand way!
